It's been quite a while since I have used this platform. Just saw news today that an interfaith couple which was getting married in court was mobbed by a huge crowd of the side of the girl's faith. I had a little laugh about it about the craziness that's going on. But the then I thought there is a tangible problem in the society. Interfaith love is genuine but also is the twisted love jihad narrative a reality. You need to be really naive to deny it. So how to get about which is which when you see an interfaith couple. Now that's a real dilemma!!
Regrettable, there is this entrenched understanding that women are a property of someone like cattle and just because they are the only ones able to give birth it becomes the so called moral responsibility of the people of either faith to protect their respective "livestock". It is shameful but that's what is really happening. As if marrying a boy of another religion or caste is going to change the girl's faith without her approval.
So what to do about it? What solution will cut through all this nonsense and provide a favourable solution for both parties. While watching the news I had an epiphany. Why doesn't the boy takes up the girl's surname and religion after marriage??
There is a twofold advantage here. First, if these guys are really in love with each other and inspite of being aware of the craziness of the society regarding the issue they are willing to go forward for love, it shouldn't really matter to them of which religion they are. So changing the surname and religion should just be a formality for him. Secondly, the biggest anxiety of the mob that their "cattle" is being transferred to another farm should be alleviated since the couple is of their faith now. It's a win win for all.
Now if the boy is reluctant to do so, the girl will automatically get to know what his priorities are i.e. religion over love and if she still wants to go ahead well then it's her funeral. And if the mob still is opposing their hidden agenda will be automatically exposed. I mean I can't really think about a better suggestion than this to stop this batshit craziness.
Wont it be a brilliant tool to empower women and inch the society away from the male dominance.
